C1 - Energizing renewables: Turning commitment into action to achieve net-zero
A renewables-based energy transition is the clear and proven cornerstone of accelerating climate action to achieve SDGs by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050. As the clock continues to tick on 1.5 degrees and national governments fail to raise their ambitions, we have reached a crossroads that requires bottom-up action towards NDCs and SDGs.
Now, it is time to ACT!
The differentiated roles of LRGs, with a clear mandate for each tier, will enable the robust uptake of renewable energy. For this energy transition to be just and inclusive, renewable sources are crucial to enhancing the resilience of local energy systems. To support national governments’ efforts to achieve SDGs by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050, LRGs now have an even greater and more integral role to play in the renewable energy transition. They must ACT, ASSESS and ACCELERATE on renewable energy transitions.
