CV2 - Accelerating ambitious climate action: From setting science-based targets to their implementation

Science-based targets (SBTs) provide a clearly-defined pathway for local and regional governments to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to mitigate climate change.
Science-based targets are aligned with the latest climate science about what is necessary to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement – limiting global warming to well-below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and pursuing efforts to limit warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius (°C).
What are SBTs? Why are they relevant for subnational entities? What is needed to support cities and regions to commit and to implement SBTs? What is already available?
