Malmö – Circular materials management

Malmö – Circular materials management

Spillepengen / Sjölunda in the Northern Harbour

Learn about about Malmö’s waste and wastewater management through a visit at the Sysav state-of-the-art waste management facility for materials recovery and energy production, and the VA SYD wastewater plant.

The Sysav waste management facility manages waste flows for recycling and heat recovery. Despite Sweden’s high numbers on recycling only about five percent of textiles are recycled as new material. During this visit you will learn first-hand about Siptex (Swedish Innovation Platform for Textile Sorting), the world’s first automated large-scale plant for sorting recycled textiles – the missing link between textile collection and high-quality recycling. Siptex is the result of a project funded by Swedish innovation agency Vinnova within the challenge-driven innovation program, led by IVL Swedish Environmental Institute and carried out together with a broad consortium consisting of Swedish fashion and textile companies, research institutes, authorities and actors from different parts of the textile value chain.
