Green resilience: Building a resilient and environmentally-friendly city
22 March 2022
The world population is expected to increase from 7.8 billion currently to 9.7 billion in 2050, and cities around the world are facing chronic stresses such as demographic change and aging, the challenges of climate change, changes in the industrial infrastructure, economic crisis, and sudden shock such as
pandemics and natural disasters.
Cities are required to adapt to these challenges and recover from crises, and many cities are trying to introduce a resilience perspective into urban development, etc., and formulate and review comprehensive resilience strategies for moving toward a more sustainable and resilient society.
In addition, at COP26, the agreement was reached that clearly set a 1.5°C target, and global action is needed to reduce carbon emissions and each city must accelerate effective actions towards decarbonization with strengthening resilience.
