Available in Spanish, Portuguese, English

Site Visit Description

The Health and Sustainability Meeting, which will take place at the Connected House of Parque Linear Bruno Covas, is a presentation and debate that will take place around three axes, namely: Requalification of urban spaces and the creation of public parks, Human-Fauna Coexistence and Domestic Animal Management.

Safety recommendations
During the field study, everyone must wear long pants and low, closed shoes. It is strictly prohibited to smoke throughout the area and to consume snacks and drinks in the operational area of the site.

Firstly, the history and current uses of Urban Parks managed by the Department of Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics will be introduced. Such spaces, despite not having a legal definition, have their concept and origin discussed in different areas of knowledge in view of their influences from the urban context and their relevance for the development of social, sporting and educational activities. In this sense, the process of requalification of urban spaces until the creation of Parks will be demonstrated through photographs, providing the population with living spaces that enable health and well-being.

Urban parks also promote greater interaction between humans and local wildlife. These interactions can evolve into conflict situations, which from a human point of view, range from risks to public health, with participation in the disease transmission cycle, to situations that generate negative feelings towards fauna, such as fear or discomfort. Thus, the Department of Wildlife Management has been working, since its creation in 2012, to prevent and provide guidance to reduce these conflicts, not only in Urban Parks, but in other urban and rural areas as well, aiming to promote coexistence between human population and fauna.

Finally, aspects of fauna will also be addressed in the case of domestic animals. The approach foresees the discussion of the management of such animals from the perspective of single health, which is a multisectoral vision that integrates the health of people, animals and ecosystems.

The meeting will be attended by representatives from the Parks and Partnerships, Wildlife and Defense and Animal Health Coordinators of the Department of Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics.
