Sustainable Solutions for an Urban Future

ICLEI World Congress 2015 – “Sustainable Solutions for an Urban Future”, took place in Seoul, Republic of Korea, between 8-12 April, thanks to the generosity of the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
The event also marked the 25th anniversary of ICLEI as the world’s leading Membership association for local sustainability.
The crucial role of local and national governments in global climate frameworks was strongly advocated for at the event, which helped contribute to the official recognition of local and subnational governments in the final text of the Paris Agreement during UNFCCC COP21.

Launched three new global initiatives
of local actions: CityFood, the 100% Renewable Energy ICLEI Community, and the Global Sustainable Public Procurement Network
Introduced the Seoul Declaration
a promise to set a clear path to global urban sustainability was adopted by 100 mayors
Launched ICLEI's 10 Urban Agendas
outlining a comprehensive vision for collective action to secure sustainability
Announced the Promise of Seoul
a covenant for the megacity to take significant action against climate change consisting of 36 tasks across 10 components of the urban system and a resolution approved by 10 million Seoul residents
Announced the Ambitious City Promises
under Promise of Seoul which The Seoul Metropolitan Government will provide policy advice and consultation to cities in Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam in establishing and implementing ambitious greenhouse gas emissions reduction commitments and local climate action plans
